Beidh ar an taispeántas seo a thosnú ar a 6 a chlog ar an bpoinnte agus leanfaidh sé 20 nóiméad. Ciallaíonn sé seo go mbeidh siad saor le himeacht arís ar 6.30. Táim ag súil go mór len iad a fheiceál agus a cloisteál ag seinnt!


Dear parents,
Your child will be taking part in the concert next Tuesday by giving a violin performance under the direction of Múinteoir Ciara. This performance is to start at 6 o’clock sharp and it will last for 20 minutes. This means that they will be free to go again at 6.30. I’m really looking forward to seeing them and hearing them play!

Have your child at school at 8.30 because the bus will be leaving at 8.50 on the dot! We are hoping to be back at school at 4.00 or a little bit later. Your child should wear the school sportswear and sun cream. Give them a back pack with a big lunch, swimming togs and swimming cap – there are two sweet things allowed! They are not allowed to bring money with them. If there is any extra information or medication that we need, come to us before the trip please.

Dear parents,

A few small notices for you:

Lots of people came to buy school uniforms last week but there is still plenty of them left. We want to sell everything so that the uniform won’t be taking up space in the school. Its likely that the uniform will be dearer in the shop so you should buy extra sizes for the years to come. You will definitely need them! They can be bought again on Thursday 16th between 8:15 – 9:15 and 1:30 – 2:45.

Finally. On this subject, don’t forget to write your child’s name in permanent ink, clearly on every item of your child’s clothing!

There are some dates to remember this month:
14th - School tours. Send in the money if you have not already done so:
Infants – Trip to Leahy’s Farm. (Cost €15.50)
R1 & R2 – Trip to Trabolgan. (Cost €17.50)
(€7 due for the gymnastics also)
Total due: Infants: €22.50, R1 & R2: €24.50
21st - End of year play – Junior Infants and 1st Class – in Actons Hotel at 6.00
17th - Rugby Blitz – 1st and 2nd Class
24th - Sports Day during school time

- HB Ice cream day for Downe’s Syndrome
29ú - ½ day. Children finishing up at 12.00. Small class party etc.

The children will be finishing up early on the 29th at 12 o clock. We will be moving from and removing the two ‘old’ class rooms and adding to the new building over the holidays. I am looking for a (good) number of parents to help me and Múinteoir Siobhán move out of this building. We have to move every single thing so there’s lots to do. Help will be needed on the 27th, the 28th and especially on the 29th. Go to Hilda to give your name if you are available.

We will be admitting 42 Junior Infants this year and making 2 Junior Infant classes out of that number. If this happened last year there would be two new teachers allowed by the Department of Education because of the poor state of affairs in the country, however, the teacher pupil ratio was raised, especially in the Gaelscoils and now there will only be one teacher allowed. We can’t have a class of 42 so we will have to split another class. The smallest class in the school will be next year’s 2nd Class and so we will be combining 2nd Class (next year’s) with 3rd Class and 1st Class. Without doubt we understand that this isn’t perfect but at the same time we knew that it was highly likely that this would happen at some stage. I am working with the chairperson at present on how to arrange the classes properly and I will get back to you soon with more information. So, the present arrangement is:

Junior Infants 2 – Michelle Ní Riagáin
Senior Infants – New teacher
1st and 2nd Class – Ciara Ní Chonchúir
2nd and 3rd Class – Siobhán Ní Núnáin

Be assured that the appropriate work for your child’s class group will be covered regardless of whether they are with an older or a younger group than themselves.

I’m sure that most of you are disappointed. And we are disappointed, as teachers. This is happening as a direct result of the government cuts. As I said already, this split would not have been necessary, based on numbers, this time last year.

Cork Marathon

A group of 18 Kinsale Mums are taking part in the Cork City Marathon Relay on Mon. 6th June. From the Gaelscoil: Ciara (Max’s Mum), Úna (Ellie’s Mum), Ciara (Cery’s Mum), Dervilla (Clíona’s Mum), Siobhán (Ruairí’s Mum), Ann Marie (Clara’s Mum) and our own Hilda are all taking part. They are raising much needed money for our dear friend Emma Fitzpatrick (Rúán’s Mum). If you would like to make a donation, please see any of the above, or if you are up in Cork, give them a cheer on – they are all wearing bright pink! - Siobhán
