Déardaoin 20/12/'12
Beidh dráma na 3 mhuicíní ar siúl sa scoil amárach ag 09.30. Ba cheart go mbeadh an éide ar na páistí agus iad ag teacht ar scoil. Is féidir an éide scoile a bheith sa mhála scoile acu. Níl gach páiste sa rang ins an dráma seo ach tá fáilte roimh na tuistí ranga ar fad teacht chun féachaint air, fiú muna bhfuil do pháiste ag glacdh páirt ann. Ní leanfaidh sé ach 30 nóim ar a mhéid.
Mar is eol daoibh tá seirbhís carúil ar siúl amárach sa séipéal ag 5. Beidh gach páiste sa scoil ag canadh sa seirbhís seo ach beidh na Naí ranganna agus rang Múinteoir Siobhán Ní Núnain 3/4 ag canadh ar an altóir. Beidh na páistí scoile ag suí le chéile mar ghrúpa sna céad suíocháin sa séipéal. Ba cheart go mbeadh an éide scoile á caitheamh acu don tráthnóna.
Más féidir bheadh sé deas dá mbeadh hata na Nollag á caitheamh ag na páistí. Bíodh rang Shiobháin Ní Núnáin ag an séipéal ag 4 chun cleachtadh a dhéanamh. Bíodh na Naí ranganna ag an séipéal ag 4.45 le tosnú ag 5.00. Na daoine ata sa dráma scéal na Nollag bíodh an éide ceart orthu, gach éinne eile bíodh an éide scoile orthu le hata na Nollag. Ní cheart go rachaidh seo níos faide na 6.00.
Beidh cóisir ranganna againn ar an Aoine. Tá cead ag na páistí milseáin a thógaint leo ar scoil. Tá cead acu bréagáin a thabhairt leo más maith leo ach mar is gnách níl cead na cinn ríomhairí ná dsi/ipad/itouch srl a bhreith leo. Má bhristear srl aon bréagáin ar scoil ní féidir linn a bheith freagrach astu. Mar is gnách ag deireadh téarma -Nollag, Cáisc agus Samhradh- beidh leath lá againn ar an Aoine -naí ranganna agus a dreathaireacha & deirfiúracha ag imeacht ar 12.00. Ranganna 1-4 12.15. Beidh páistí an bhus ag imeacht ag 12.00. Beidh an scoil ag ath-oscailt ar an Luan an 7ú Eanáir 2013 (!) ag 08.50.
Guím Nollag faoi shéain is faoi mhaise daoibh!
The 3 Little Pigs will be on tomorrow 09.30. The children should wear their costumes to school in the morning and be ready to go onstage. They can have their uniform in their school bags. Every child in the class does not have a part in this drama but all parents are welcome to come and watch, even if your own child isn't in it. The play will only take 30 mins at the most.
As you are all we're putting on a carol service tomorrow at 5 pm. Every child in the school will be singing but the Infant classes and Múinteoir Siobhán Ní Núnáin's 3/4th class group will be singing on the alter. The other class groups will be sitting together at the top of the church. All the children should wear their uniforms for the service. It'd be nice too if they could wear Santa hats.
Múinteoir Siobhán's 3/4th class group should go the the church at 4.00 for practice. The Infant classes should come to the church for 4.45 so we're ready to start at 5.00. The children who are in the Nativity play should come to the church in their costumes. All other children should wear their school uniform with a Santa hat. The whole service should be finished by 6 at the latest.
There will be class parties on Friday. The children may bring sweeties and a toy to school. As usual, electronic games, dsi/ipad/itouches etc are not allowed. The school cannot take responsibility for any toys broken or damaged etc in school.
As with every end of term -Christmas, Easter and Summer- there will be a half day on Friday. Infant classes and their brothers and sisters leaving at 12.00. 1-4th classes leaving at 12.15. The school bus will leave at 12.00. The school will reopen Monday 7th Jan 2013 (!) at 08.50.
Merry Christmas to you all!

Pairceáil
D'iarradh orm impí ar thuismitheoirí a bheith níos chonsiasaí agus iad ag pairceail lasmuigh don scoil. Táim ag iarraidh oraibh gan páirceáil dúbailte a dhéanamh os chomhair gluaisteáin eile ar maidin mar tá seans ann go bhfuil san ag cur bac le radharc ar pháistí agus iad ag siúl i dtreo geataí na scoile. Chomh maith leis an gcontúirt seo tá sé ag cur moill ar thuismitheoirí eile agus iad ag dul ag obair ar maidin. Chun deileáil leis an easpa spáis sa charrchlós iarraim ar thuismitheoirí gan fanacht timpeall na scoile ar maidin. Tá gach páiste sa scoil in ann siúl isteach leo féin faoin dtráth seo. Más gá pairceáil nó dul isteach sa scoil an féidir smaoineamh ar tiománaithe eile le bhur dtola.
Bíodh deireadh seachtain deas agaibh ar fad! 12 chodladh eile!!
Dear parents,
I have been asked to remind parents to be more conscientious when parking outside the school and in particular not to double park behind other cars. This interferes with the driver's view and it's obviously dangerous for children to walk behind cars that are trying to reverse. As well as being dangerous for the children it delays parents who are trying to get to work if they must wait for people to return to cars that are blocking their exit. To help alleviate the parking chaos I again ask parents not to delay at the school car park in the morning. Every child in the school is well able to walk in themselves at this stage. If you must go into the school on a given morning please remember the other drivers.
Have a nice weekend! 12 more sleeps!!

Míoltóga Ghruaige / Head Lice
A thuistí, Cuireadh ar an eolas mé go bhfuil cás míoltóga ghruaige sa scoil arís. Scrúdaigh gruaig do pháiste anocht agus cuir an leigheas cuí air más gá. Tá sé an-dheacair fáilt réidh le míoltóga ghruaige muna bhféachann gach clann ar gruaig a bpáistí féin.Táim ag impí oraibh seo a dhéanamh chun cosc a chur ar an fhadhb go tapaidh.
Dear parents,
I have been informed of a case of head lice in the older class rooms. Please check your child's hair tonight and treat it if necessary. It is very hard to get rid of head lice if each family does not look at their own children's heads. I am imploring you to do this to stop the problem quickly.

Tuismitheoirí na Naíonáin Shóisearacha/Junior Infants Parents
- Táimid tar éis tús a cur leis an léitheoireacht Gaeilge. Éireoidh na leabhair níos deacra agus ní bheidh do pháiste in ann iad a léamh. Ná bí buartha faoi seo. Nílimid ag súil go mbeidh siad in ann léamh go neamhspleách go dtí an bhliain seo chugainn.
- Ag an bpoinnte seo tá do pháiste in ann siúl isteach ón ngeata leo féin. Déanann siad go minic i rith an lae é mar sin ní ghá daoibh siúl isteach leo a thuilleadh ach amháin má bhíonn oraibh labhairt liomsa nó le Hilda ar cúiseanna éagsúla.
- Ba cheart go mbeadh éide scoile iomlán ceart ar na páistí ar fad gach lá. Bíodh ainm scríofa ar gach ball éadaigh, bosca lóin nó aon rud a bhíonn ag do pháiste ar scoil le bhur dtola. Tá geansaí scoile gan ainm sa rang faoi láthair.
- Smaoineamh maith is ea é chun fobhríste / fobhrístín breise agus péire stocaí glana a cur isteach i mála scoile do pháiste ar eagla na heagla. Tárlaíonn timpistí! Tá éadaí breise againn ar scoil chomh maith agus má bhíonn ar do pháiste iad a thógaint nigh agus seol thar nais iad chomh tapaidh agus is féidir le bhur dtola
- Teastaíonn uaim go síneoidh sibh obair bhaile bhur bpáistí gach oíche fiú muna bhfuil áit faoi leith ann don síniú. Déanfaidh aon áit ar an leathnach an gnó.
- We have started the Irish reading. The books will get harder and your child will not be able read them. Don't be worried about this. We don't expect them to be able to read on their own until next year.
- At this point your children are able to walk in from the gate on their own. They do often this during the day so you need not walk in with them any more except when you have to talk to me or Hilda for various reasons.
- The children should all have the full school uniform on every day. There should be a name on every item of clothing, lunch box or anything that your child has at school, please. There is a jumper with no name in the class for the last few weeks.
- It is a good idea to put spare underwear and a pair of clean socks into your child's school bag just in case. Accidents happen! We have spare clothes at school also and if your child has to take them please wash and return them as fast as you can.
- I want you to sign your children's home work every night even if there is not space there for a signature. Any place on the page will do.
Note for Parents of First Communion Children
The next 'Do it in Memory Mass' is on Saturday, 24th November, 2012 at 6.30pm The Feast of Christ the King.
Things to know:
(1) The children will need to bring some falling leaves to this mass (just one or two is fine). Parents Group leaders will be at the back of the church with baskets to collect the leaves from the children as they come into Mass.
(2) Try to be at the church 5/10 minutes early so your child's leaves can go in the basket, which will then be brought to the altar and placed near the Paschal Candle.
(3) After the 2nd Reading Fr Robert will again call all the First Holy Communion Children up to the altar for the Gospel Reading. The children will then sit down on the floor in front of the altar and Fr Robert will chat to the children about the Gospel (what the story was about etc). Only the children will go up to the altar, parents can remain in their seats. The First Communion School Parents Representatives will stand behind the children, just to keep an eye on things!!
(4) Just a little reminder to your children to say "Amen" and bless themselves after they receive their special blessing from Fr Robert and Canon John K when they go up to them at Communion time.
(5) Before this 'Do this in Memory Mass' if parents could help their children to:
(a) complete page 43 in their Thumb Book
(b) to read pages 14 – 17.
Don't forget to bring the Thumb book to Mass.

This also helps us to practically eliminate all overheads and we are just left with basic food costs and even those tend to be minimal as some local suppliers kindly donate some produce free of charge or at cost.
Possibly new taste & flavours for some but hopefully it will appeal to everyone. This event is open to all so please tell friends neighbors etc as this helps to get funding from an outside source.

Cork County Council - Metropolitan Towns Cycling Strategies & Active Travel Town Walking and Cycling Strategies Bandon - Fermoy - Kinsale - Youghal
The Council are doing a fact finding exercise and it would give the Gael Scoil parents an opportunity to voice our concerns about the lack of a safe footpath all the way to the school. Could we encourage everyone to take a moment to fill in the survey so we can get an impact and to safeguard our children. Thanks. The following message describes two strategy studies which have been commissioned by Cork County Council. You have been sent this message to both inform you of the strategies intentions and to seek your inputs. Your inputs are important as they will be used to develop and inform each strategy as it develops. Please do not respond to this email, instead please use the survey links listed in the email below.Active Travel Town Walking and Cycling StrategiesBandon – Fermoy – Kinsale - YoughalThe County Development Plan outlines a strategy to address sustainable travel within the County. Under the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport's Active Travel Town programme the County Council has now commissioned walking and cycling strategies to be developed for the towns of Bandon, Fermoy, Kinsale and Youghal. The aim of these strategies will be to significantly improve accessibility and permeability for cyclists and pedestrians within the Active Travel Towns. It will also identify and develop links between the Active Travel Towns, Cork Metropolitan Area and Cork City and potential links to future Greenway routes.Cork County Council has appointed WS Atkins and Kieran Boyle Consulting to prepare the strategies for the towns. The strategies will be used to apply for funding from the Department for the initiatives and project schemes identified in the strategy implementation plans. The strategies must be completed by December 2012 to comply with the deadline for submissions to the Department. The strategy is currently in its assessment stage and as part of this assessment a web based survey has been posted on the Council website which will remain live for a period of 2 weeks. The purpose of this survey is to invite detailed submissions from members of the public which will be used for the development of the strategy initiatives and projects. The surveys can be viewed and completed on the following links:In order facilitate a high response rate the Council is contacting community and voluntary groups directly in order to publicise the surveys. Notifications are also being placed in the local press. The Draft Strategies will be presented to the elected members during the week beginning Monday November 26th.Metropolitan Towns Cycling StrategiesThe County Development Plan also outlines a strategy to address sustainable travel which identified the need for a macro level plan for cycling in Cork. In this regard the County Council has commissioned a cycling strategy for the Cork Metropolitan Area with the objective of providing a clear plan for the future development of cycling networks throughout Metropolitan Cork. The aim will be to significantly improve accessibility and permeability for cyclists within the Metropolitan Towns and between Metropolitan Cork and Cork City. It will also identify and develop links with the Active Travel Towns and the existing and planned Greenways.Cork County Council has appointed WS Atkins and Kieran Boyle Consulting to prepare the strategy for the Metropolitan Area. The strategy will be used to apply for funding from the National Transport Authority for the initiatives and project schemes identified in the strategy implementation plans. The strategy must be completed by December 2012 to comply with the deadline for submissions to the National Transport Authority. The strategy is currently in its assessment stage and as part of this assessment web based survey has been posted on the Council website which will remain live for a period of 2 weeks. The purpose of this survey is to invite detailed submissions from members of the public which will be used for the development of the strategy initiatives and projects.
