Dear parents, I have been informed of a case of headlice in 4th class. Please check your child's hair tonight and treat it if necessary. To avoid the head lice it would help to put up the girls' hair and for them to wear a wide hairband. Hilda has the bottles treatment liquid for sale in the office. Thanking you all in advance!

Dear parents,

There will be a half day Tuesday 22/12/15. 

The Infant classes will finish at 12.00 and the older classes will finish 

at 12.15.

The school bus needs to leave at 11.45. 

Every class will have a party on the day. 

The children will have permission to bring some sweets and games 

into school. Expensive games/toys are not allowed because its likely 

that they would get broken! 

Chewing gum and fizzy drinks are not allowed at school.

Pupils are welcome to wear festive clothes. 

School re-opens on Thursday 07/01/16.

Girls Club - Blankets of Hope

Thug rang a 6 cuairt ar an Girls Club sa chathair agus bhronn siad na blaincéid an dóchais orthu. 

Ár mbuíochas le gach páiste, gach tuismitheoir agus gach seantuismitheoir a rinne cniotáil le trí mhí anuas, go háirithe na tuismitheoirí a tháinig isteach chun cniotáil agus cróiseáil a mhúineadh.

Rang a 6 visited the Girls Club and presented our Blankets of Hope to them. 

The volunteers were extremely grateful and were very impressed with the blankets.

Our thanks to the pupils, to all the parents and grandparents who have been busy crocheting and knitting over the past few months. A special thanks to the parents who gave their time teaching the pupils how to knit and crochet every week.

Junior infants will have an extra practice  for the Christmas Show in the Parish Church this Wednesday, (16.12.2015) as well as Thursday (17.12.2015).

Please drop your child off at the church on those mornings at 9.a.m. and then bring their school bags into school. Bus back to school. 

All classes will be performing Thursday night in the Parish church 17/12/15 at 6pm, pupils to be there by 5.45pm.

The school is participating in the WEEE pledge recycling challenge, in aid of LauraLynn, Ireland's Children's Hospice. There is a WEEE battery recycling box in every classroom. The more batteries we collect, the more prizes we win! So every pupil is welcome to bring in as many old batteries as they can for the foreseeable future.

The First Communion Parents Representative Group met on Monday, 30^th November 2015 to plan the next  ‘Do this in Memory’ Mass which will be held on:

·         Sunday, 13^th December 2015 at 10:00 AM, for Dunderrow and Gaelscoil Chionn tSáile

This third Sunday of Advent is often referred to as Gaudete Sunday, meaning the Sunday of Joy.

During the Mass, Fr. Robert  will explain to the children that throughout Advent, we are preparing and looking forward to the birth of Jesus. He will talk about how they can prepare for the birth of Jesus, by being kind, respectful, truthful, and by sharing with others.

Before coming to Mass, Fr. Robert would like all the children to do the colouring on pages 44 to 47 of the THUMB book. These few pages focus on getting ready to welcome the baby Jesus.

In Italy, on Gaudete Sunday people bring the figurine of baby Jesus from their crib to Mass for a blessing. They then wrap the figurine up in Christmas paper. The figurine is the first present to be unwrapped on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning and is a lovely reminder of the true meaning of Christmas. If anyone would like to bring the figurine from their crib to our Mass, Fr. Robert will be doing this special blessing.

We would like parents to sit with their children during Mass. And please do join in and pray and sing aloud – don’t worry if you’re not the greatest singer – just joining in creates a lovely atmosphere. In this way, the children learn how to participate fully in the Mass.

Blankets of Hope

We are making great progress with our blankets of hope… The kids have been really busy and have 2 completed blankets with 4 more well underway. 6th class will be visiting Cork Girls Club on Friday 11th December 2015 to present the completed blankets to the charity. These blankets will be given to children who are undergoing chemotherapy. We are very proud of all of the children for their great efforts.  Please encourage your child to keep knitting for the next couple of weeks and send any completed squares into school.

Dea- Scéal don Ghaelscoil!!

Ar shuíomh na Roinne tá ár scoil ar liosta le haghaidh foirgneamh nua i 2018! A leithéad d'aocht. Seo thoradh an obair chrua leanúnach atá á dhéanamh ag múinteoirí, tuismitheoirí agus boird bainistíochta na scoile! 

Our school is listed as due for major development in 2018 on the Department of Education Website! Ar Fheabhas!! This is a huge achievement and one that needs to be celebrated. My thanks to all those that worked tirelessly in establishing and developing this Gaelscoil ,to our teachers , parents , Boards of Management , P. A. etc. Maith sigh go léir!

Beimíd ag roghnú beirt pháiste chun an forógra a léamh agus páiste amháin chun glacadh leis an mbrat. 

Two members of the defence forces will visit the Gaelscoil on Thursday 26/11/15 to deliver the national flag to us as part of the 1916 commemorations.   

Over the next week the pupils will be learning all about 1916. 

We will select two pupils to read the proclamation. We will also select one pupil to receive the flag.

Congratulations to our wonderful, creative writers. 3rd and 4th class entered a writing competition last year for Hamish Hawkin. 

Bláithín de Lóndra came in 1st place and Aaron Mac Seanlaoich, Clíona Ní Dhonnchú and Caoimhe Ní hIfearnáin were runners up. Adrian commended all the participants for their imaginative stories.

I will explain to the children that the Church year (Advent – Ordinary Time – Lent – Ordinary Time – Feast of Christ the King) is different to the calendar, or even the school year. It’s a time to think about endings and beginnings.

I will also talk about the different ways that we refer to Jesus. Very soon, the children will be singing about ‘baby Jesus’, but this month, we refer to Jesus as ‘King’. When we refer to Him as King, we mean that he is a leader who stands for forgiveness, fairness, and truthfulness.

I will draw the children’s attention to the Paschal candle. I will explain that it symbolises the Light of Christ, and has two special purposes. It is lit at the beginning of our life in the Church, at our Baptism. And it is lit at the end of our life, at our Funeral Mass. The hope and light that the Paschal candle symbolises, reminds us that God is with us to lead us in all our endings and our beginnings.

I would like all the children to do the colouring on pages 42 and 43 of the THUMB book before coming to Mass. Page 43 uses the image of a leaf that has fallen in Autumn to remember a loved one who has died. I would like the children to bring a few beautiful leaves that have fallen to Mass. They can place the leaves in the baskets held by the Parent Leaders at the entrance to the Church.

We have a ‘Faith Friends’ scheme in the Parish whereby older members of the Church include a particular child and their family in their prayers, throughout the Communion year. I invite families that would like to participate to get their child to write their first name on a card and place it in the designated basket at the entrance to the Church. There is no obligation to participate and the card with the first name is the only contact between the family and the older member of the Church.

And finally, for anyone who didn’t get their Rosary Beads blessed last month, you can bring them along again this month.

The school's Health Promoting committee got together for the first time last week. Our main aim for this year is to highlight the importance of positive mental health and to help improve the mental health of our pupils and wider school community. Our message for this week is that you feel better when you eat healthy food. Please discuss this at home.

3rd-6th class boys and girls will be supporting the boys' football team Thursday 19/11/14 in Páirc Uí Rinn at 12.00.

Supporters (students 3rd-6th class): Leaving school at 11.00 am on a bus. Returning to school at 1.45pm. Each student must pay €7 to cover the price of entry and bus. Please pay online or send in payment to the class teacher. Students can wear their sports clothes and are allowed to bring small flags etc. to show their support.

De bharr easpa uimhreacha, ní bheidh aon rang gaeilge ag dul ar aghaidh inniu (02/11/2015). Fágfaimid é ar feadh seachtain amháin eile ar eagla go mbeadh suim ag éinne iontu. Due to a lack of numbers, tonight's (02/11/2015) Irish class for the parents has been rescheduled for next Monday (09/11/2015). If anyone is interested, leave your name with Hilda asap. Classes will be held on Mondays, for 6 weeks, between 7.30pm and 8.30pm, costing a total of 50euro. These classes are suitable for parents who already have a few words but would like to get some practise / a better understanding of the language for their own benefit and/or the benefit of their children.

Ar an gCéadaoin seo chaite 21/10/2015 bhí am iontach ag rang a dó i leabharlann an bhaile (Town library). Bhí an scéalaí (storyteller) Patrick Ryan ag insint a lán scéalta scanrúla (scary) is greannmhara (funny) don rang. Bhí tomhais iontacha (excellent riddles) aige chomh maith! Bhain na páistí taitneamh mór as is spreag sé dóibh leabharlann an bhaile a úsáid. (encouraged the children to use the town library). Táimid an-bhuíoch as Leabharlann Contae Chorcaí.

As I am sure you all know our kids and parents have been busy knitting and helping with the Blankets of Hope. The parents will take a break this Friday (23/10/2015) but we will be back to help the kids for another few weeks after the midterm.  Huge thanks to all the parents  and the very special grandparent who have helped. Dear parents!

The mid term break is fast approaching and the school will be closed next week. To celebrate the holiday we will have yummy pancakes in school on Thursay 22/10/2015! Those with allergies should bring in their own mixture in a clearly labeled container. On Friday 23/10/2015 the children can dress up   in their Halloween costumes and partake in some traditional Halloween games . I'm asking the children that dress up to bring in €2 which will enter them in a  raffle for a chance to win one of the carved pumkins that are on display throughout the school. Each class is carving their own pumpkin (grown on site!!) the prize for the best pumpkin is a Pas Obair Bhaile for the entire class!. Happy Carving !The children will finish at the normal time on the day.

Tuismitheoirí Rang 2 / Parents of 2nd Class

Dear Parents,

Our October ‘Do this in Memory’ Mass will be held on:

Sunday, 25th  October 2015 at 10:00 AM, for Dunderrow and the Gaelscoil.

The focus this month will be to help the children know how to participate fully in Mass.
I will explain the symbolism of some of the objects and gestures that the children will see at Mass. For example, it may help the children to understand why I wear an Alb and that we sit when it is time to listen, we stand when we want to profess our faith, and we kneel when we speak directly to God or for our own quiet reflection.

Continuing this theme, it would be ideal if parents could sit next to the children during Mass. Mirroring their parents, the children gain the confidence to join in the prayers and hymns. Remember to bring the THUMB book to help the children follow the prayers. I would also ask you to remind children to be mindful that many other parishioners attend our ‘Do this in Memory’ Masses and that we must be respectful of their prayer.

As the month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary, I would like each child to bring rosary beads with them to be blessed and learn how to say a decade of the rosary. Perhaps ask a grandparent or godparent if they would like to gift a set of rosary beads to your child.

November is synonymous with remembering our dead, so the children might like to keep a memorial card in their sacred space. This can either be a memorial card that is already at home or they can create memorial card of their own.

At the end of Mass, the parent representatives from each school will distribute the October Grapevine Newsletter. Please ask your child to line up:

- By the musicians, for Dunderrow, and
- By the Baptismal Font, for the Gaelscoil.

Fuinneog nua san Oifig / A new window in the office

Táimid tar éis cur le sabháilteacht na hoifige tré fuinneog nua a chur isteach. Táim ag impí ar thuismitheoirí / cuairteoirí an fhuinneog seo a úsáid agus comarsáid á dhéanamh le Hilda tríd.  We have improved office safety by installing a new window. I encourage parents / visitors to communicate with Hilda through this window.

Beidh Rang a dó ag siúl go dtí leabharlann an bhaile ar an gCéadaoin 21/10/2015. Beidh an t-údar (author) Patrick Ryan ag léamh do na páistí is ag labhairt leo faoin spraoi atá le fáil go deo i leabhair. (endless fun to be found in books.) Bígí cinnte go bhfuil cóta báistí (raincoat) ag na páistí ar fad ar an lá ar eagla na heagla (just incase).
