Kinsale Beacon

Sr. Genevieve O’Keeffe writes...

ALL IS GIFT

At this time of year, we think especially of the fruits of the earth; on land, and in the sea. As we can admire a painting by a great artist and think of its creator, so too we can look at a leaf or a petal of a flower and think of the creator. Take a leaf or a petal, touch it, feel the texture, see the colour – there is a label that says “made by God”. In the Mass, we thank God for the “fruit of the earth, and the work of human hands”. The touch of the divine is all around us. We walk with the divine. As we learnt in the poem by William Henry Davies, many moons ago – “what is this life, if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare”.

A HARVEST PRAYER
“We thank you Lord for a harvest of plenty.
Small seeds that multiply to feed many.
Trees that blossom and produce abundant fruit.
God, we thank you for abundance overflowing.
Enough for our own needs, and an abundance to share, Enough to feed the hungry and provide for the destitute. Enough to reach out with generosity and care.
God, we thank you for the seeds you have planted in our hearts.”
