Rang 2 & Naí Shíns / 2nd Class and Senior Infants

Fé mar is eol daoibh, tá drámaí na Nollag á chleachtadh againn sa scoil faoi láthair. Ní dhéanfaidh Rang a dó dráma de ghnáth ach toisc dáileadh na ranganna i mbliana thug na múinteoirí rogha dóibh páirteanna éagsúla a ghlacadh sa seó idir drámaíocht, ullmhúcháin agus bainistíocht stáitse. Mar sin tá fáilte rómhaibh go léir teacht agus sásamh a bhaint as an oíche linn. Is suas chughaibh fhéin go hiomlán atá sé.

Beidh Rang na Naí Shínsearacha & Rang 2 iomlán ag dul go dtí ionad na Seanóirí Haven Bay ar an Aoine, an 16ú Nollag chun carúil na Nollag a canadh.

As you know, we are practicing the Christmas plays at school at the moment. 2nd class won't normally have a play but because of the split class this year the teachers gave them the choice of participating in the show by acting, preparing or stage management. So you are all welcome to come and enjoy the night with us. It's totally up to yourselves.

The Senior Infants and all 2nd Class will be going to Haven Bay Retirement Home to sing Christmas Carols for them.

Sochrúcháin agus Ullmhúcháin i gcóir Drámaí na Nollag / Arrangements and Preparations for the Christmas Plays

Beidh 'Dress Rehearsal' ag rang Sinéad, Siobhán agus Michelle amárach. Déan cinnte de go bhfuil éadaí ag do leanbh.

Sinéad, Siobhán and Michelle's classes will have a Dress Rehearsal tomorrow. Make sure that your child has his/her costume.

Fé mar is eol daoibh, tá Seó na Nollag ar siúl ar an 21ú Nollag i Halla Phobail Béal Átha an Spidéal. Tosnófar le seó Sóisearacha ag a 6 ar an spota. Is féidir leis na leanaí teacht ag a 5.30. Beidh ar na naíonáin agus a dtuismitheoirí fágaint tar éis an seó chun spás a dhéanamh don seó sínsireacha.

Beidh an seó seo ag tosnú ag a 7.15, mar sin is féidir leis na leanaí teacht ag a 7.00. Ba chóir go mbeadh an seó sínsir críochnaithe roimh a 9.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh as an gcomh oibriú.

Ní bheidh Naí Shíns ag glacadh páirt I ndráma na Nollag i mbliana mar sin ní ghá do na tuismitheoirí san freastal ar an ndráma.

Beidh Rang na Naí Shínsearacha & Rang 2 iomlán ag dul go dtí ionad na Seanóirí Haven Bay ar an Aoine, an 16ú Nollag chun carúil na Nollag a canadh.

As you know, the Christmas show is on the 21st December in Ballinspittle Community Centre. The Junior Infants show will start at 6 on the spot. The children can come at 5.30. All the Junior Infants and their parents will be leaving after this show to make space for the Senior classes. This show will be starting at 7.15, so the children can come at 7pm. The Senior show should be finished around 9. Thank you very much for your cooperation.

The Senior Infants won't be taking part in the Christmas play this year so their parents need not go.

The Senior Infants and all 2nd Class will be going to Haven Bay Retirement Home to sing Christmas Carols for them.

Archaeological excavations at Caherduggan Nov 2011

Exciting new Archaeological finds under investigation at Caherduggan
on the R581 road between Doneraile and  Newtwopothouse

Dear Principal,

Good afternoon. I am e-mailing you to inform your school about exciting new Archaeological finds under investigation at Caherduggan, near Doneraile.  Headland Archaeological Company, on behalf of Cork County Council, have discovered exciting new archaeological evidence of a medieval settlement and castle at Caherduggan. This work is being carried out in advance of road realignment.

A team of experienced archaeologist are working on the site at the moment and making exciting new discoveries about the past. These archaeological investigations will continue until mid December.

Headland Archaeological Company has a blog, The Big Dig, on their investigations at Caherduggan. Your school can join them on the web at:
http://headlandarchaeology.wordpress.com/2011/10/28/the-big-dig-at-caherduggan-castle-cracking-castle-and-mega-moat/

This blog provides a wonderful opportunity for the students to share with the archaeologist the excitement of uncovering the hidden secrets of medieval Caherduggan. This is a rare opportunity to gain an understanding how archaeologist work. The blog will be regularly updated with details of new finds, photographs, news, stories etc.

It is encouraged that the blog be used in tandem with some of the lessons in the resource pack 'Archaeology in the Classroom – Its about time' such as Excavation in a box and the Timeline; the follow up pack 'Time in Transition'  provides a useful power point presentation on the Development of Castles; The Big Dig and the Post Excavation (what happens after the excavation). Both these resources are now available on the web at www.itsabouttime.ie.

To locate archaeological monuments in your area look at www.archaeology.ie and for heritage buildings www.buildingsofireland.ie

I am hoping that The Big Dig blog will provide interesting and exciting educational material for you and your students. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries, my contact details are listed below. I would welcome an opportunity to call to the school at some stage to see how the students and teachers get on with the blog and discuss the educational value of the project. A hard copy of this letter is been send to you in the post today. Please forward e-mail to class teachers and anyone who is interested in local heritage. Also I would very much appreciate acknowledgement of  receipt of this e-mail.

UNICEF

A huge thanks from all at UNICEF Ireland for taking part in our non-uniform day and for raising vital funds for our East Africa Appeal. Please do extend our thanks to all the teachers, secretaries, parents committees and students who took part. As UNICEF Ireland is 100% voluntary funded – we really do rely on as much support from the public as possible to enable us to continue our life saving work in the field. Thank you.

I attach a presentation for you explaining exactly what your funds can buy. Its might help bring it to life for the students. Where we work the €181.10 really will go a long way.

Thank you so much again and if you would like any further information please do not hesitate to ask.

Also – if you have any more amazing photos from this year – please do share them again.

3 Phíosa Nuachta! / 3 News Items

1. Múinteoir nua, Aisling Ní Ógáin

Beidh an múinteoir bliana dos na Naíonáin Shinsearacha, Aisling Ní Ógáin ag tosnú sa scoil amárach. Cuirimíd fáilte mór roimpi. Tá an tádh linn chomh maith go mbeidh Múinteoir Siobhán Ní Bhruachain ag fanacht sa scoil ar bhonn oideachais speisialta mar sin ní bheimíd ag fágail slán léi ach an oiread. Ba mhaith liom mo bhuíochas a gabháil léi as ucht an tréan-oibre atá déanta aici leis an rang. Tá cion an-soléir eatarthu agus táim chomh sásta go mbeidh sí leo ar feadh tamaill eile. Tá ár bhfoireann ag fás!

The class teacher appointed from the interviews held last month will be starting in the school tomorrow. Aisling Ní Ógáin is her name and she will take the Senior Infant class. She is a very welcome addition to our team. We are very lucky also to be retaining Múinteoir Siobhán Ní Bhruacháin who currently teaches the class. She will be staying on in a Special Education capacity so I’m sure the class will be delighted not to be losing her. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Múinteoir Siobhán for her wonderful work with the class. There is an obvious connection and affection between her and the class and I’m so delighted that she will be staying with them for an extended time. Our team is growing!

2. Níl na toghcháin ar siúl sa scoil mar sin beidh an scoil oscailte.

The Presidential Elections are not being held in the school therefore we will be open as usual tomorrow.

Táim ag iarraidh oraibh €2 a thabhairt dóibh do mhuintir UNICEF. Téir go Unicef.ie chun féachaint air más maith! Ba mhaith liom lá gan éide scoile a dhéanamh ar a son arís i mbliana. Beidh cead ag na páistí 2 rudaí milis a thabhairt leo chomh maith – níl cead guma cogainte ná deochanna spraoi a thógaint isteach le bhur dtola áfach. Críochnóidh na páistí ag an gnátham.

It has become a tradition in the school that the children have a small party on the day of the mid term break (or Halloween holidays). The children may wear their Halloween costumes to school and we will have a halloween parade around the school. I’m asking you to send in €2 per child so we can make a donation to UNICEF. We will take a group photo of the children in their costumes and send it on the UNICEF. Last year ours was the winning photograph and it is currently being used in their advertising material. Go to UNICEF.ie if you’d like to have alook, it’s undert the non-uniform day heading. The children may bring in 2 treats to have on the day –no chewing gum or fizzy drinks though please! The children will finish up at the usual times.

An Bord Bainistíochta / Board of management

Dear Parents,

You are probably all aware that the term of the current Board of management is coming to an end and a new Board of Management will have to be assembled before December. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the current board for serving Gaelscoil Chionn tSáile for the last 4 years. The outgoing Board of Management is as follows

Chairman: Gabriel Ó Cathasaigh
Príomhoide: Sinéad Ní Mhurchú
Múinteoir: Michelle Ní Riagáin
Cisteoir: Judy Uí Cochláin
Tuismitheoir: Sinéad Uí Dhoinnléibhe
Tuismitheoir: Ger Ó Murchú
Ón bPobal áitiúl: Oisín Ó Díomasaigh
Ón bpobal áitiúl: Penny Uí hEathírn

Ár mhórbhuíochas leo uilig. Maybe they would like to put their names forward again?! They are more than welcome to do so!

A Board of Management requires 2 parent’s representatives to sit on the board, one mother and one father. The board meets 4-5 times a year and various aspects of school progress / life are discussed at the meetings. These meetings are conducted through the medium of Irish so it is essential that the parent’s representatives (and all other members) have a good understanding and working knowledge of Gaeilge.

If you feel that you are a suitable candidate and are willing to devote the time required to the board I would like to invite you to nominate yourself by coming to me before 2.30pm on Wednesday 9th November. I will compile 2 panels of nominees – one panel of mothers and one of fathers.

We will have a meeting in the school on Wednesday 9th November at 7.30pm where people will be invited to elect the parent’s representatives for the Board from the list of nominees. All are welcome to attend. If there is more that one nomination per role a secret ballot shall be held and parents may vote for those candidates. Where only one mother or one father has been nominated those parents shall be deemed elected.

Voting returns from the ballot may be retained for the purposes of co-option to fill vacancies occurring during the life of the board.

Samples of the correct rugby shirts have arrived in Young’s Uniform shop on Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork city. The shop is happy to proceed with these as the shape and sizes have been corrected. If you’re in the city, you may go to the shop to try on and order the rugby shirt before Thursday the 27th October. Alternatively someone from Young’s will be coming to the school next Wed (26th) morning between 9-10 with the shirts for you to try on and order. The order will be put in on Thursday and the shirts should be back within 2 weeks. The shop apologises about the delay but we were as well to wait until we were satisfied with the shirts. It’ll be great when the whole uniform is sorted!
