As you are probably aware it is the Parents of Rang 1 who organise the Communion Party each year, this year it takes place on Saturday 24th of May 2014.
We will be asking that every parent who has a child making their communion next year to help in some way. There are lots of people needed to help on the day / help set up the night before / help clean up when the party is over.
For the moment we are looking for 2 volunteers from Rang 1 to lead the party organisation.

"LABOUR TD for Cork South-West Michael McCarthy and local Councillor Tomás O’Brien have welcomed notification from the Department of Education of plans to provide a new school building for Gaelscoil Chionn tSáile, Kinsale, Co. Cork.
The Minister for Education has confirmed that the Department of Education has recently commenced the process of identifying and acquiring a suitable permanent site for Gaelscoil Chionn tSáile.
“I welcome this development as a positive step forward for the parents, staff and children of this school. While the project is still in its very early days, I will continue to liaise with my colleague Minister Ruairi Quinn on the matter and ensure that these plans are given appropriate attention and focus amid the very limited financial outlook. The Department’s latest response on this is promising and I look forward to the matter progressing.” "

Mórshiúl Lá 'le Pádraig
Beidh an scoil ag glacadh páirt i Morshiúl Lá 'le Pádraig fé mar is eol daoibh amárach 17/03/'14. Caithfimid bualadh ag 'the Glen' ag 3.15 le tosnú ag 4. Uimhir ár ngrúpa is ea 32. Ba cheart dos na páistí eadaí glasa a chaitheamh agus pé suathantais/hataí bratacha atá acu.
The school will be taking part in the St. Patrick's Day parade this year on Monday March 17th '14. We will have to be at 'The Glen' (at the hospital side) at 3.15p.m. for a 4 p.m start. We are number 32 in the parade. The children should wear green for the parade and whatever hats/ badges flags etc they have.

Tá athrú ag teacht ar cá mbeidh an éide scoile ar fáil. Buíochas mór le Dia! Beidh gach rud seachas na bríste agus an gúna ar fáil ó 4orm i gCarraig Uí Leighin. Beidh seirbhís seachadha go dtí an scoil acu muna n-oireann sé daoibh dul ann. Beidh sibh in ann dul ann chun rudaí a cheannach agus a ordú nó ordú a cur ar líne.
Is dóigh liom go naontaíonn gach éinne go bhfuil éide scoile fíor dheas againn i nGaelscoil Chionn tSáile. Chuireadh alán smaoineamh, taighde agus obair isteach ann ag ár gcéad coiste na dtuismitheoirí nuair a d’osclaíomar ar dtús agus deineadh an t-uafás oibre chun na hearraí éagsúla a fháil ar an bpraghas is lú agus ab fhéidir. Is de bharr an sár-iarracht sin go bhfuil éide scoile chomh alainn againn! Bíonn daoine i gcónaí ag caint fúinn nuair a théimid amach agus ag rá cé chomh deas is a fhéachann ár bpáistí inti.
Bímid de shíor ag iarraidh caighdeán, costas agus infhaighteacht an éide scoile a fheabhsú agus le cúnamh Dé beidh 4orm in ann freastal ar ár riachtanaisí.
Ta alán caint faoi éide scoile ar na meáin faoi láithir. Tá alán caint faoi tromaíocht chomh maith. Is dóigh liom gur chóir dúinn gach rud gur féidir linn a dhéanamh chun ár leanaí a chosaint ó thromaíocht. Sin an cúis is laidre b’fhéidir go bhfuil sé tabhachtach éide scoile cruinn a bheith i ngach rang –na hárdranganna ach go háirithe. There’s a change in where the uniform can be bought –Thank heavens I hear you say! Every item with the exception of the trousers and pinafore can be purchased from 4orm.ie -online or from their premises in Carrigaline. They will even deliver to the school if you can’t go to collect them.
I think everyone agrees that we have a lovely uniform in Gaelscoil Chionn tSáile. Alot of effort and work went into it from day 1 and the quality is super. A huge amount of negotiation secured a very high quality uniform at a comparatively low price –lower quality items can be got at a cheaper price but would have to be replaced more regularly. People always comment on how lovely our uniform is whenever we go out on trips etc.
We are continuously trying to improve the price whilst maintaining the quality. We have tried to make the uniform more easily available and I think 4orm may be the answer to our needs.
There’s a lot of talk in the media about uniforms etc in the last few months. There has also been a lot of talk about bullying. I believe it is our duty to try to protect our children from this scourge in whatever way we can. This is the strongest argument for having a strict uniform for every class but for older classes especially. I want to eliminate the opportunity for some children to annoy other children about having “cool” clothes or expensive labeled clothing. If every child has the exact uniform as described on the site there can be no competition between them or pressure on parents to buy certain items.
There is a form for every household in their bags today.

The children will be having a fun day in school tomorrow (14/03/'14) for Seachtain na Gaeilge so we will be having breakfast together and they may wear green clothes for our own St Patrick's day parade. They will need to bring their own bowl, spoon and whatever cereal they like. We will supply the milk.

Tuistí Rang 2 - Céad Chomaoineach / Parents of 2nd Class - First Holy Communion
We are looking at the idea of having a photographer in the school on the day of the Holy Communion and possibly at the church for a group photograph. We have contacted a photographer and he is available on May 24th, 2014, so we have provisionally booked him. He will email on his cost, packages etc. over the coming days and we will forward this on to all parents.
Could anyone who is interested please email Carol on carolnyhan@hotmail.com so that we can get an idea of numbers and then we can look at booking time slots for families.
He is available to be at the school for photos before the Holy Communion also if any families would like to avail of his services but may not have time afterwards.
He possibly wont get his costings to us until after the weekend so hopefully it will be sent out Monday at latest.

Féile Drámaíochta Chorcaí 2014
Tá dáta don Fhéile Drámaíochta athraithe do Rang a 1 (Rang Múinteoir Siobhán). Beidh an dráma 'Labhraí Loingseach' ar siúl maidin Déardaoin, 13ú lá de mhí Márta 2014 (13/03/2014) ag a 10 a chlog i nGaelscoil Uí Dhrisceoil, Gleann Maighir. Beidh ar na páistí teacht ar scoil in am, ag a leath uair tar éis a hocht mar beidh an bus ag fágaint na scoile díreach ag a 8.50am chun iad a thabhairt ann! Bí cinnte go bhfuil na héide drámaíochta orthu le bhur dtola agus iad ag teacht ar scoil. Beidh siad thar nais roimh a 11.30am. Tá fáilte roimh aon tuismitheoir a dteastaíonn uatha tacaíocht a thabhairt dóibh a bheith ann.
The date for Féile Drámaíochta has been changed for 1st class (Rang Múinteoir Siobhán). The play 'Labhraí Loingseach' will now be on Thursday morning, 13th of March 2014 (13/03/2014) at 10a.m. in Gaelscoil Uí Dhrisceoil, Glanmire. The children need to come to school on time for 8.30am as the bus taking them to the competition will be leaving at 8.50am exactly! Please ensure that the children are wearing their costumes upon arriving at school. We hope to be back before 11.30a.m. Any parents wishing to attend the competition to support the children are more than welcome.

As you all know we had a great day in the city last Friday (07/03/'14) despite afew mishaps in the organisation of the event and I'm certain the children enjoyed themselves immensely. Gael-taca contacted me today to let me know that there will be photos in the Echo of the event. They didn't say which day but we might keep an eye out for them in the next few days! Also if parents have nice photos we'd love if you could email some into the school.

A big congratulations again to the 4th class girls who participated in Scór na bPáistí last month and again last Saturday night (08/03/'14) They succeeded in winning second place in the competition! Not only should we be proud of their acting abilities but they also helped their teacher Múinteoir Siobhán Ní Bhruacháin write the play! Very well done to them! Gaelscoil Chionn tSáile abú again!

We are all really looking forward to Rith 2014 tomorrow, 07.03.2014! Following is the time-table that we have.
10.45 - Bus leaving the school
11.30 - Arrive at George's Quay in the city.
11.50 - Start of Rith 2014 Gaelchultúr
12.15 - End of the Rith (for us)
12.30 - Meeting at the Opera House
13.00 - Bus back to Kinsale
13.45 - Infant Classes to be collected at school
14.30 - 1st to 5th Classes to be collected at school.
That's a rough estimate of the timetable. We will try to adhere to those times but if we are delayed I apologise in advance. To ensure we are organised the group needs to stay together for the duration of the event. When we are finished running we will walk - as a group - to the space outside the Opera House to have a little bun and water. If parents need to take their children, they may do so after the teachers have taken a full head count and all children are accounted for, but not before. Please respect that the teachers need to look after the whole group and cannot be expected to remember individual requests. The best option is to collect from the school but I do understand people have other commitments and there'll be no problem accommodating these after the head count.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank 2Dukes Coffee", Cáit-linn in Junior Infants' parents who will kindly provide a bottle of water and a small treat for all our little athletes! Their generosity will be greatly appreciated by all I've no doubt! Our thanks again.
A leaflet is being sent home today in the school bags about car-pooling for tomorrow's event.

Dear Parents,
My apologies for the delay in posting this but I want to congratulate the team that represented the school on Sunday 2nd March 2014 in the Credit Union Quiz that was held in the Rochestown Park Hotel. They got on very well altogether, coming in 4th place (out of many schools) with a score of 65/72 and I'm so proud of them. Very well done to Amelia, Fionn, Diarmuid agus Conchúr from 5th class for even getting as far as they did against 6th class teams! More important than winning prizes however is their behaviour on the day when representing our school: They should be very proud of themselves. Well done to them. Gaelscoil Chionn tSáile abú!

A huge congratulations to the first class children who secured a place today in 'Féile Chorcaí 2014' with their play 'Labhraí Loingseach'. The inspector was very taken with them and commended the high standard they had achieved. Well done!!!
They will continue on to the next round on the 15th of March 2014 which will be held in Gaelscoil Uí Dhrisceoil. We have not yet received a time but will let you know as soon as we do. Parents will be required to bring the children there on the day.

Comhghairdeas le cailíní R4 a bhuaigh a blitz camógaíochta. Beidh siad ag dul ar aghaidh go dtí an chéad babhta eile ar an Luan, an 10ú lá de mhí Márta in Ath an Mhaide. Imreoidh siad ag a 10.30 ar maidin má thá suim ag éinne teacht chun tacaíocht a thabhairt dóibh. Tá síobanna eagraithe againn dóibh agus tiocfaidh siad ar ais ar scoil chomh luath is atá na cluichí thart.

Congratulations to the fourth class girls who managed to top their indoor camogie blitz last week. They will continue to the semi finals which will be held in Riverstick, Monday,10th of March 2014. Their match begins at 10.30 am should any parent wish to support they are more than welcome to come along. Lifts have been organised for them and they will return to school as soon as their matches are over.

Blitz Iománaíochta R4
Beidh blitz iománaíochta R4 ar siúl ar an Aoine, an 7ú lá de mhí Márta 2014 in Áth an Mhaide. Tá síobanna eagraithe againn dóibh agus rachfaidh siad ar aghaidh go dtí Rith Chorcaí ina dhiadh. Tiocfaidh siad abhaile ar an mbus leis an scoil.
Fourth class boys will take part in a hurling Blitz in Riverstick Friday morning, the 7th of March 2014. Lifts have been organised for them. They will continue to the city for Rith Chorcaí after their blitz and come home with the school on the buses.

Traenáil Iománaíochta R4 & R5
Beidh traenáil iománaíochta ar siúl tar éis am scoile, Déardaoin, an 6ú lá de mhí Márta 2014 óna 2.30 um thráthnóna go dtí 3.30. Tá fáilte roimh gach páiste i Rang a 4 agus Rang a 5 ina bhfuil suim acu a bheith ar an bhfoireann iománaiochta na scoile ar son Sciath na Scol. Ní bheidh gach duine á phiocadh againn an uair seo mar ní bheidh ach cead ag deichniúr a bheith ag imirt ar an bpáirc. Beidh seans eile ag na daoine sin an bhliain seo chughainn.

There will be hurling training tomorrow after school from 2.30pm - 3.30 pm, Thursday, 6th of March 2014. All children in fourth and fifth class interested in being selected for the Sciath na Scol hurling panel are welcome to attend. Not everyone will be successful in making the panel as places are limited.They will have their chance again next year.

Leabharlann Scoile / School Library
A thuismitheoirí,
Tá sé i gceist againn leabharlann scoile/cúinne léitheoireachta a thosnú sa seomra ranga nua. Cuirfidh sé seo le cumais léitheoireacht na bpáistí ar fad agus leis an taitneamh a bhaineann siad as leabhair agus léitheoireacht. Ba mhaith linn a bheith in ann áit deas speagúil a chur ar fáil dos na páistí inár féidir leo leabhar ficsean agus neamhficsean (as Gaeilge agus as Béarla) a léamh agus a thógáil ar iasacht.
Chun tús a chur le seo, táimid ag iarradh oraibh aon leabhair atá sa bhaile agaibh, atá léite ag bhur bpáistí agus go bhfuil siad críochnaithe leo a thabhairt isteach don leabharlann.
Is féidir libh iad a sheoladh isteach le bhur páistí nó iad a thabhairt isteach go Hilda san oifig.

Dear Parents,
We are planning to start a school library/reading corner in our new classroom. This would have huge benefits for the children in every class, both adding to the enjoyment that the children get from books at school and also boosting their literacy skills at the same time. We want to be able to provide a pleasurable and inspiring reading environment that each class will look forward to visiting and be able to both read and borrow fiction and non fiction books in English and Irish.
You can help us with our library by donating any books that your children have read and are finished with. All donations will be gratefully accepted.

R2 - Cleachtadh don Chéad Fhaoistin / 2nd Class - First Confession Practice
We have First Confession practice tomorrow (05.03.2014) and Friday (07.03.2014) morning at the Parish Church. Instead of bringing the children to school tomorrow and Friday morning, please take your child to the Parish church. If you can give a lift from the church back to school on any or both of these mornings, please contact Grace at 087 9788132. We would be very grateful to you for this.

Chun páirt a glacadh sa chomórtas Luchleasa Bhunscoileanna Chorcaí caithfidh gach scoil líon áirithe ticéidí a dhíol ag braith ar na huimhreacha sa scoil. Táid á sheoladh abhaile inniu go dtí na teaghlaigh ar fad.Tá gach teaglach ag fáilt 1 nó 2 thicéid. (Tá sé deacair an méid ticéad atá againn a roinnt) Tá costas €2 an ticéid orthu. To take part in Cork City Sports every school has to sell a certain number of tickets depending on the numbers in the school. They are being sent home today (04.03.2013) to all the households.Every household is getting 1 or 2 tickets (It is difficult to distribute evenly the number of tickets we were given). The tickets are €2. Send in the stubbs and the money before this Friday (nb), please. (Before Friday 07/03/'14)

Lá Náisiúnta na Leabhair / National Book Day
Déardaoin 06.03.2014 Lá Náisiúnta na Leabhair. Chun é a chomoradh i gceart táim ag tabhairt cead dos na páistí an leabhar is fearr leo a thabhairt ar an lá. Beidh am faoi leith tugtha dóibh chun iad a léamh.
Thursday, 06.03.’14, is World Book Day! To mark it properly I am giving the children permission to bring in their favourite book to school on Thursday. There will be time allocated to read them.
Pancóga amárach! / Pancakes tomorrow!
Beidh pancóga againn ar scoil amárach 04.03.2014! Má tá aileirge áirithe ag do pháiste seol a mheascáin speisialta isteach leo.
We will have pancakes in school tomorrow 04.03.2014! If your child has any allergy to milk etc., send a personalized mixture with them to school.
Ranganna Gaeilge do thuismitheoirí / Irish Classes for parents
Tá suim ag cúpla tuismitheoir i bhfreastal ar ranganna gaeilge an téarma seo. Ma theastaíonn ó aon tuismitheoir freastal orthu ar an Luan ar feadh 6 seachtaine le Múinteoir Ciara, cuir glaoch ar Hilde san oifig chomh tapaidh agus is féidir roimh an Aoine (7.03.2014).
A few parents are interested in taking Irish Irish classes this term. If any other parents are interested in taking them on Mondays for 6 weeks with Múinteoir Ciara, contact Hilda in the office as soon as possible before this Friday (07.03.2014)
