Cúpla rud!

A chairde,

Tá alán rudaí iontacha deasa ar siúl sa scoil faoi láithir agus eagla orm nach bhfuil fhios ag cuid agaibh mar gheall orthu!

Táimid ag bailiú na dearbháin / greamacháin ó ALDI chun Pól Ó Cónaill a clúdach. Faraoir mór nach bhfuil ALDI againn i gCionn tSáile ach má tharlaíonn sé go mbíonn sibh ann ag siopadóireacht in áit éigin eile bheadh sé iontach iad a fháil sa scoil. Mar a deireann siad "If you're not in, you can't win!"

Tá R5 & R6 chun díriú speisialta ar innealtóireacht VEX Robotics i mbliana. Tá cnuasach áitiúl déanta againn le Phobalscoil Chionn tSáile agus Scoil Naomh Eltin chun an tairbhe is mó a bhaint amach d'ár bpáistí. Toisc go bhfuilimíd i gcnuasach áitiúl is féidir linn tairbhe a bhaint as deontas agus aithne a cur ar ár gcomharsain!

Tá cló-scríobh á tosnú i ranganna 3-6. Beidh cuntas Typing.com ag gach páiste sna ranganna sin agus an cuspóir atá leis ná go bhfoghlaimeoidh gach páiste cló-scríobh tadhall nó "touch typing" a dhéanamh ar a dtoil sara imíonn siad ón nGaelscoil. Tá R3 & R4 chun díriú ar códáil chomh maith i mbliana. Táimid chun slad mór airgead a chaitheamh ar fhearas códáile & beidh ár n-iPads in úsáid do seo chomh maith.
Ar an iomlán táimid chun ár bhfoghlaim digiteach a fhorbairt i mbliana agus as seo amach.

Déanaimíd iarracht ár bpáistí R6 a ullmhú don mheánscoil gach bliain. De gnáth deanaimíd na rudaí i dtreo deireadh na mbliana ach i mbliana táimid ag tabhairt faoi níos luaithe. Chuireamar tús leis ar an Máirt seo chaite (17.09.2019) le cainteoir ó chomhlacht ón Astráil -> Unleashing Personal Potential -> www.unleashingpersonalpotential.com.au . Díríonn siad ar scileanna ceannaireachta, growth mindset, grit and mental wellbeing. Bhíos an-tógtha leo agus dar le múinteoir Aodán gur bhain na páistí an-taitneamh agus tairbhe as. Is sinne an chéad scoil in Éireann a thug cuireadh dóibh teacht anuas. Tá an t-ádh linn go bhfuil sé de mhaoin againn rudaí iontacha mar seo a cur ar fáil d'ár bpáistí. Táim dóchasach go mbeidh torthaí le feiscint tríd an bhliain.

Tá boird picnic nua ceannaithe againn dos na páistí sa chlós. Is de bharr ár gCoiste na dTuistí iontach gníomhach gur féidir linn rudaí breise deasa a cheannach dos na páistí. Go raibh maith agaibh uile a bhí pairteach ins na gníomhaíochtaí éagsula nó a cheannaigh cácaí sna díolacháin cácaí éagsúla a bhí ar siúl anuirigh. Ar an nóta sin taimíd ag lorg/ ag iarraidh ar tuismitheoirí nua le bheith pairteach i gcoiste na dtuistí scoile chun a bheith i bhfeighil ar gníomhaíochtaí éagsúla. Má tá suim/ am agat téir i dteangbháil le do ionadaí ranga/class rep. Tá fhios agam go mbíonn siad de shíor ag lorg tacaíochta agus cabhair ó na tuistí éagsúla.

Sin sin go fóill! Tús maith, leath na hoibre & táimíd atr éis tús iontach a cur leis an bliain scoile cheanna féin!

Príomhoide Sinéad

Dear parents,

There are a lot of wonderful things happening at school at the moment and I'm afraid that some of you don't know about them!

We are collecting the stickers from ALDI to cover Paul O Connell. Unfortunately we don't have ALDI in Kinsale but if you happen to be shopping in an ALDI somewhere else, it would be great to get the stickers in school. As they say "If you're not in, you can't win!"

5th and 6th Class are going to focus on VEX Robotics Engineering this year. We have formed a local cluster with Kinsale Community School and Scoil Naomh Eltin to get as much benefit as possible for our children. As we are in a local group, we can benefit from grants and get to know our neighbours!

Typing is to start in 3rd to 6th Class. Each child in these classes will have a Typing.com account and the aim is that each child will learn how to "touch-type" before they leave the Gaelscoil. 3rd and 4th Class are also going to focus on coding this year. We will be spending a lot of money on coding equipment and our iPads will be used for this also. Overall, we will be promoting our digital learning this year and from now on.

We try to prepare our 6th Class for secondary school every year. Usually we do this towards the end of the year but this year we are going to address it earlier. We started last Tuesday 17.09.2019 with a speaker from an Australian company -> Unleashing Personal Potential -> www.unleashingpersonalpotential.com . They concentrate on leadership skills, growth mindset, grit and mental wellbeing. You should take a moment to check out their website if you can! I was very taken by them and, according to Múinteoir Aodán, the children really enjoyed and got benefit from it. We are the first school in Ireland to give them an invitation to come. We are lucky that we are thinking of providing wonderful things such as this for our children. I am hopeful that the results will be seen during the year.

We have bought new picnic tables in the yard for the children. It is thanks to our active parents association that we can buy extra nice things for the children. Thanks to all of you who were involved in the various activities or bought cakes in the various cake sales that took place last year. On that note, we are looking for / asking new parents to be part of the parents association to be in charge of different activities. If you have interest / time contact your class rep. I know that they are always looking for support and help from parents.

Sin sin go fóill, The year has gotten off to a flying start!

Dea scéal!
Fuaireamar scéal inné go bhfuaireamar ainmniú do chomórtas Sárobairtheicneolaíochta in Oideachas! Tá taispeántas le déanamh againn go luacth agus ma eiríonn leis rachaimíd ar aghaidh go dtí an chéad céim eile chun an gradam a bhaint amach! Tá alán obair le déanamh againn ach táim cinnte go n-aontóidh sibh liom nuair a deirim gur gaisce iontach don scoil é dá bhfaighimís an aitheantas san. Múinteoir Aodan a bheidh i gceannas air & lenár dtacaíocht go léir tá seans an-mhaith ann go neireoidh linn! Cuirfidh mé scéalamach nuair ata tuilleadh eolasi agam!

Great news!
We just got word yesterday that we have been nominated for  a Cork Trend Micro Excellence in Education award! We will have to prepare a presentation for the judging committee at the start of next month and if we are successful we will be one of only 3 schools to go forward to the next level & closer to the award! We've alot of work to do in terms of preparing our presentation but I'm sure you'll all agree it'd be an amazing achievement for the school to get this recognition. Múinteoir Aodán is directing the application and I'm feeling very positive that with all our support, we've an excellent chance of succeeding. I'll keep you posted as to how we're getting on!

Kinsale Beacon

Sr. Genevieve O’Keeffe writes...

ALL IS GIFT

At this time of year, we think especially of the fruits of the earth; on land, and in the sea. As we can admire a painting by a great artist and think of its creator, so too we can look at a leaf or a petal of a flower and think of the creator. Take a leaf or a petal, touch it, feel the texture, see the colour – there is a label that says “made by God”. In the Mass, we thank God for the “fruit of the earth, and the work of human hands”. The touch of the divine is all around us. We walk with the divine. As we learnt in the poem by William Henry Davies, many moons ago – “what is this life, if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare”.

A HARVEST PRAYER
“We thank you Lord for a harvest of plenty.
Small seeds that multiply to feed many.
Trees that blossom and produce abundant fruit.
God, we thank you for abundance overflowing.
Enough for our own needs, and an abundance to share, Enough to feed the hungry and provide for the destitute. Enough to reach out with generosity and care.
God, we thank you for the seeds you have planted in our hearts.”
